Meeting expectations for another year, Samsung has held a Galaxy Unpacked more interesting than ever in this month of July 2024, in which we have met not only the new references in the foldable mobile market, the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6, but also the revolution of its wearables with the new Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch7, Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro as well as a smart ring called Galaxy Ring and that arrives in a very limited run almost like a probe balloon.
A lot of fabric to cut, there is no doubt about that, although in reality Samsung has not given all the prominence that the best-selling foldable in the world deserved, which in the end is none other than a Galaxy Z Flip that reaches its sixth generation with more new features and a more interesting evolution than that of the Galaxy Z Fold6.
This is not the case of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 that today we are going to compare with its predecessor, the Flip5, because this more fashionable and versatile foldable thanks to its colorful design and clamshell format we do find very important improvements in the interior screen, now more resistant, in addition to a substantial modification in the photographic section now housing a larger and more powerful main sensor, finally adding more milliampere-hours also to a battery that needed improvement.

On the outside, at least, the changes are not noticeable… But they are there!
It is true that if we look at the Galaxy Z Flip6 we can only notice that it is not a Flip5 thanks to the rings of the external cameras, which now take on the same color as the Armor Aluminum chassis of the device. There are not many aesthetic changes beyond that, nor in the form factor, as the dimensions and everything else remain unchanged.
Of course, when we look more closely we will find a new UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) glass that goes from 30 microns to 50 microns, so being thicker now the internal panel is now more resistant. Not only that, Samsung is now adopting the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 all over the exterior to increase resistance.
Of course, the hinge has also been modified with a double rail and a reinforced edge that distributes impacts better, managing to minimize the central fold a little more to improve the user experience. This was something for me essential.
The screens are identical to the previous model, the Galaxy Z Flip5, so there is no improvement there. However, the 3.4-inch outer panel is more useful in this generation thanks to Galaxy AI, as we will have suggested quick responses to our messaging notifications, as well as Photo Ambient to customize the wallpaper depending on the time and weather. In addition, more widgets have been created for this “small” screen than ever before.
In the hardware section, the protagonist is photography… and the battery… and Galaxy AI
Obviously Samsung has implemented the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset in this Galaxy Z Flip6, also increasing the RAM to 12 GB in all models. Logical improvements.
More surprising, although expected, is the advance in terms of mobile photography of a Z Flip that had clearly fallen behind. It now incorporates a 50-megapixel main sensor with f/1.8 aperture, PDAF autofocus, 2x optical zoom and up to 10x digital zoom with AI zoom. It should be remembered that the fifth generation had 12 megapixels and a much less powerful sensor.
For its part, the ultra-wide-angle secondary camera does have 12 megapixels like the previous model, maintaining the same internal 10-megapixel sensor both with f/2.2 aperture.
The other big improvement is the battery, because if the Galaxy Z Flip5 was satisfied with 3,700 mAh in a double module, this new iteration raises the level to 4,000 mAh, with fast charging of up to 25 several and wireless charging.
And finally, it is worth highlighting the dual stereo speaker and all the power of Galaxy AI, which is actually the attraction of the entire Galaxy catalog in 2024, as Samsung has focused practically all the evolutions of its mobiles and One UI on developments based on artificial intelligence. There is no lack of Flex mode, or the Interpreter, or Circle to Search, or Gemini, and so on…
At the software level, of course, Samsung maintains with the Galaxy Z Flip6 its long and promised update support, with up to 7 years of major Android updates and as many years of security updates and patches.
And now it’s up to you to decide… We have broken down where the new features of the Galaxy Z Flip6 are, but would you change your Z Flip5 with only one year for these improvements?
