The UAE’s crazy new plan. Turning the desert into a real forest

The countries of the Persian Gulf have surprisingly cyclopean projects to transform their respective nations

The UAE's crazy new plan. Turning the desert into a real forest
His plan is to create a backbone in Dubai with millions of trees

Dubai is today known as the city of luxury, large skyscrapers and commerce. However, the city has a climate that is not friendly to life since it easily reaches fifty degrees Celsius, with all that this entails. To this must be added its desert climate and the scarcity of green areas due to this same situation. Something that now seems that the Emirati authorities want to solve by creating a large park in the shape of a straight line more than 64 kilometres long. Thus, the city with the largest luxury residential building in the world aims to give a facelift to the aesthetics of its streets with the creation of a gigantic park.

A change in Dubai’s landscape

The United Arab Emirates has a new plan to turn its most populous city, Dubai, into a veritable orchard full of nature and trees that can survive in the inclement climate of the region in which it is located. Thus, according to the creator company, Urb, the emirate would be looking to transform an old highway into a pedestrian path covered by more than a million trees, thus turning the desert into a real forest in a surprising way.

With 64 kilometers in length, the idea is to transform the Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed road into a plantation of more than a million trees, with an electric tram powered by solar panels that will also be able to supply energy to 130,000 homes. In order for rainwater to be fully used, ecological drains known as bioswales will be installed that will allow this type of water to be managed and reserved for irrigation.

In addition to all these technologies, the area will have parks, urban farms and gardens in which nature and humans will be completely connected. They also consider including outdoor play areas and exercise areas to support a healthy lifestyle while doing sports, as well as cycle paths and pedestrian paths, thus becoming a masterpiece of engineering that will seek to transform the way we see Dubai today.

Trade will also have its place in the most exotic and luxurious city in the world. They have planned to have food stores and more or less large commercial areas in which to consume. Even so, the objective is not for it to become a commercial area per se, since the idea is that it promotes a healthy lifestyle and dispenses with the traffic of combustion vehicles.

This is a multi-year project with no full completion date, but it certainly sounds quite ambitious and is part of an even larger plan known as Dubai 2040. Be that as it may, this type of plan is reminiscent of those of its neighbor, Saudi Arabia, with The Line, although its plan is not as exaggerated as that of Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.
