Xiaomi has a huge range of products, the Asian company’s catalog includes everything from mobile phones to electric vehicles and, of course, a considerable string of home equipment. Xiaomi has presented a new member for this list, a surveillance camera that has a solar light charging system.
It is the first time that Xiaomi has taken the risk of launching a video surveillance camera with this charging system. In addition, despite being a new product, what is surprising is its price. The Xiaomi BW500 has a label of 199 yuan, around 25.55 euros at the exchange rate. Let’s see in detail the main features of this new camera.
Xiaomi BW500: this is Xiaomi’s solar-charging outdoor video surveillance camera
First of all, the Xiaomi BW500 has been launched in China through a crowdfunding process, so we will have to wait for it to become a reality in the Asian country to start generating expectations about its arrival in Spain.
Having made this clear, now it’s time to break down its characteristics. The charging system is made up of a solar panel that must be placed in an area where it can receive direct sunlight. The design is designed so that its orientation is always oriented towards the sky.
Xiaomi indicates that this solar light charging system will allow the video surveillance camera to be able to be powered throughout the day. In fact, it will only take 3 hours of direct sunlight for this to happen.
Being a device intended for the outdoors, Xiaomi has integrated IP67 resistance to the solar charging system from which a USB-C cable will also be protected against rain and dust. Of course, the camera as such does not have protection against dust and water.
The image quality offered by this camera is 2,560 x 1,440 pixels with an f/1.6 aperture, so there should be no problem when capturing images in poor lighting conditions. The field of view it offers is 136 degrees.
In addition, it can capture images in infrared, color and has LED lighting to illuminate scenes with an action radius of up to 10 meters. The camera integrates a 10,000 mAh battery that ensures up to six months of continuous use.
We will have to wait to see if this product will reach Spain and, it will depend on whether the crowdfunding campaign goes ahead to see if a global launch is viable. In the meantime, you can only follow closely how this campaign develops.
