new version of macOS was unveiled today during the WWDC 2024 keynote. Its name is macOS Sequoia, and it is the fifteenth major update of Apple’s desktop operating system, which arrives with great new features aimed at iMacs, Mac Mini, Mac Studio and MacBook.

This is a particularly important update. Not only because of the new features it includes, but also because it is one of the versions that takes the most advantage of the NPUs integrated into computers with Apple Silicon processor to give life to the new artificial intelligence functionalities integrated in macOS 15.

Mac models on which macOS 15 Sequoia can be installed

Apple has revealed the list of devices compatible with macOS 15, and you can see how there are fewer and fewer computers based on Intel processors. Little by little, Apple is completing its transition until it reaches a portfolio made up of 100% computers with Apple Silicon chip. The full list can be found below:

  • MacBook Air from 2018 onwards
  • MacBook Pro from 2018 onwards
  • iMac from 2019 onwards
  • 2017 iMac Pro
  • Mac Mini from 2018 onwards
  • Mac Studio from 2022 onwards
  • Mac Pro from 2019 onwards

Although there are models based on Intel processors that are compatible with the new version, most of the new features of macOS 15 are aimed at computers with Apple Silicon. At this point, this should come as no surprise to anyone.

The beta version of macOS 15 Sequoia can be installed today on compatible computers. To do this, you just have to sign up for the beta program and download the version corresponding to each device. It is necessary to remember that, as beta versions, they may contain bugs and therefore it is not recommended to install the new version on devices that are used on a daily basis.
