Difference Between Love and Marriage

Love

What is love?

One day Plato asked his teacher, “What is love? How can I find it?” His teacher replied, “There is a huge wheat field in front. Walk forward without looking back, and choose only one stem. If you find the most magnificent stem, then you have found love.” Plato stepped forward, and in a short time, he came back empty-handed, he had chosen none. His teacher asked him, “Why didn’t you choose any stem?” Plato replied, “Because I could only choose once, and I could not turn back. I found the most magnificent stem, but I didn’t know if there were better ones to come, so I decided not to pick it. As I walked further, the stems I saw weren’t as good as the previous one, so in the end I didn’t take any. His teacher then said, “And that’s love.”

What is marriage?

Another day, Plato asked his teacher, “What is marriage? How can I find it?” His master replied, “There is a flourishing forest in front of it. Walk forward without looking back, and cut down a single tree. If you find the tallest tree, then you have found marriage.” Plato went ahead, and before long, he came back with a tree. The tree wasn’t in full swing, and it wasn’t tall either. It was just an ordinary tree. His teacher asked him, “Why cut down that common tree?” Plato replied, “Because of my previous experience. I walked halfway through the woods. This time, I saw this tree, and I felt it wasn’t bad, so I cut it up and brought it in. I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity.” His teacher said, “And that’s what marriage is.”
